Arakoola Harry - Sold

Congratulations to the Bailey Family of Duns Creek (Baileys of Greta) on the purchase of Arakoola Harry (Canningvale Hannah/Kirkbys Stud Turbo).  This lovely bay gelding will make a great allrounder.  We are looking forwards to seeing the Bailey's at future ASH events.  

Australian Stock Horse Association AGM - Adelaide

Also held in Adelaide this year was the ASHS Annual General Meeting.  Arakoola ASH Stud was represented by Brian, Janet & Erin Hodges.  The meeting generated a lot of healthy discussion and it is great to see the Society is moving forward in all aspects.  This is a great opportunity to meet and discuss important issues to members.  Congratulations to Felicity Green and her team for all their organisation.  The dinner was a great success and a good chance to reminisce with old friends and chat with new ones.     

Polocrosse

Playing for Maitland Ian & Warwick Hodges have travelled around the Hunter Valley this winter in pursuit of polox.  While away at ASH Nationals Ian's polox mare Wombramurra Katie was injured and so Arakoola Nikki fresh from competing for a week at Nationals was off to polox with success.  Nikki & Ian played in open competition at Merriwa and Muswellbrook carnivals and was awarded best no. 2 at Merriwa.  Warwick Hodges and his faithful partner Melander Star Whitney have also played with great success winning best no. 2 at Maitland carnival where his Junior side played and won a tight final to take top honors.  Congratulations to Ross Turnbull on winning Champion Player of the Carnival - the prize being a jacket sponsored by Arakoola ASH Stud.  Upon recovering Katie played some strong carnivals in the Open A & B grade competition and Ian & Kate were selected in the Under 21 side to play at the Zone Championships held at Grafton in August.   


ASHLA AGM Meeting - ADELAIDE


As usual a very successful meeting was held and a great social occasion ensued.  It was great to see some new faces and reminisce with the regulars.     Arakoola ASH Stud was represented this year by Janet and Erin Hodges who travelled to Glenelg in Adelaide for The Australian Stock Horse Ladies Association Annual General Meeting in June.  Held in a different location each year to give all members a chance to attend.  Ladies, members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to attend.  I can guarentee you a great time and this is a great opportunity to see how your association works and to have your say in the running and organisation that goes on behind the scenes.  Congratulations to Erin Hodges on being appointed Junior Vice President.  Come join us in Manly, Sydney NSW in 2008, please contact us for information or President Jackie Long (02) 4646 1931 or 0418 441 909 or Jane Allen (08) 8762 4789 or 0418 990 884.


ASH NATIONAL SHOW - CAMDEN


The 2007 ASH National Championships were held at Camden in Sydney, NSW this year.  A week of lovely weather until the final days ensured stiff competition and a turnout of some wonderful horses from all over the nation.  We even welcomed a combination from Tasmania - Roxene Kingston and her black gelding Everhope Bullwinkle.  Arakoola ASH Stud had a successful show with Arakoola Andy winning the Station Horse Over 15hh and placing in his Pleasure Hack class.  Arakoola Nikki won the Working Mare Under 15hh class and went on to be Reserve Champion Working Mare behind Jan Taylor and Boree Skate, congratulations to Jan on a top performance.  Congratulations to our good friends Warwick & Fiona Lawrence and the Lawrence Family - Warwick and Kirala Katalena won Supreme Champion Working (for the second time - Albury Nationals 2005).  Warwick was also third overall in the National Futurity on Ceekayjay Katie Jay and the plate winner.  


Polocrosse World Cup - Warwick QLD


Ian Hodges competed in the polocrosse carnival at Killarnie and the Club tournament held during the World Cup at Warwick in April 2007.  He rode his mare Wombramurra Katie and Arakoola Nikki, his Maitland team placed 4th.

2007 SYDNEY ROYAL EASTER SHOW

Arakoola Andy and Erin competed in what is probably their last Sydney Show together and the duo did not disapoint.  Gaining a 5th in the Station Horse Class and the Senior Time Trial and a score in the small arena campdraft on the first day of competition.  Day two started out with the coverted ASHLA class which they won for the second year in a row, 1/2 a point seperated 1st and 2nd place with Loretta Lawson riding Brett Parkinson's Rosebrook Balou Rose putting in a faultless workout for 2nd place.  Erin & Andy also won the James Angus Memorial Stockmans Turnout class on this day in which they placed 2nd last year.  Day three was the working classes and Andy placed 2nd in his Working Gelding Class to a great performance by Brett Parkinson's Palmers Cool Dude.  That night together with Phillip Main on his mare Korak Dusty Lady, Erin and Andy led the ASH parade into the NAB arena with whips cracking.  A great display was put on showcasing the ASH to the public.  The last day of competition was the hacking in which Andy gained a 6th place.

Muswellbrook Show

Arakoola Andy was 3rd in the Led Gelding, 2nd in the Hack over 15hh to Loretta Lawson on Brett Parkinson's Rosebrook Balou Rose, 2nd in the Working ASH over 15hh to Loretta again and Reserve Champion Working Horse with Champion going to Loretta and Rosebrook Balou Rose.

Gresford Show - Some New Arakoola Faces and Some Old!

Gresford show was the first outing for Arakoola Harmony (Nabinabah Easy Gun/Arakoola Melody) beloning to Warwick Hodges this sweet young brown mare showed with her approach to the whole experience and even a 3rd in the hotly contested Led Mare over 15hh class (led by Kim Peterson) the exceptional temprement of her sire and dam so prized in our breeding program.  Arakoola Charm (Arakoola Talisman/Sweetwater Karla) also came for her first foray in ASH competition (shown by Cody Peterson) and is shaping up to follow in the footsteps of her sucessful sire. 

Erin again competed Arakoola Andy & Arakoola Nikki this time lending mounts to Cody Peterson.  Erin and Andy won Senior ASHLA, Hack Gelding and Champion Hack with Arakoola Nikki after winning the Mare Hack in Reserve  completing the double.  In the Working Classes Andy & Cody won the Junior Working and went on to win Champion Working.  Cody and Nikki also won the Junior ASHLA and Junior Hack.

Hunter Branch Show and Sale 2007 - White Park Scone

Show: 
Erin Hodges and her usual partner Arakoola Andy were joined this time by Arakoola Nikki (Nabinabah Easy Gun/Arakoola Kiri) having retuned from being preferred mount of Emily Peterson, the young brown mare stepped up to the mark in usual Easy Gun style and Ian Hodges returned to the show ring after a winter of polocrosse.  Erin & Nikki were 1st Mare Hack, 3rd Ladies Hack and 2nd Overall in the Open Versatility Challange.  Ian and Andy won the Gents Hack, Pleasure Hack, Polocrosse Horse and Working Gelding. Ian and Nikki were 2nd in the Dressage 1.C.  Erin and Andy were 2nd in the ASHLA behind Loretta Lawson and Terry Blake's great mare Rosebrook Ferrari, 2nd Dressage 2.A and 3rd in the Open Versatility Challange.  Nikki is Andy's 3/4 sister as they are both by Nabinabah Easy Gun and Nikki's dam is Andy's sister Arakoola Kiri.

Warwick Hodges and his mare Melander Star Whitney once again demonstrated their versatility gaining 3rd in the Led Mare, 2nd Polocrosse Horse rider under 18, 5th Overall Junior Challange with 2nd in the Time Trial and 4th in the Working Sections.    

Sale:  A new addition to our stud was purchased at the ASH Approved Sale held on the Sunday.  Shellydean Nikita (Nabinabah Easy Gun/Shellydean Ricadonna), was purchased for breeding and riding purposes from DV & MJ Patch from Inverell Station, Inverell.  Nikita is a lovely tempered, well trained mare and a valuable asset to our stud. 

Cessnock Show 2007 - Arakoola Jazzman Excels in early outing

This was only the 2nd competition outing for our young stallion Arakoola Jazzman, his first being Maitland Show the week before where he went in only his Hack Stallion class for a 2nd placing.  Showcasing his sire Nabinabah Easy Gun's trademark temprement and versatility Jazzman contested and won his first ever Led Stallion Class and took out Champion Led Stallion.  Under saddle Jazzman won his Hack Stallion Class and was Reserve Champion Hack after the well respected and performed duo Codys Way ridden by Bruce Withers.  In his first foray into Working classes Jazzman won a stronly contested Novice Working Class and the Working Stallion Class.  Arakoola Andy ridden for the first time in competition by Warwick Hodges was 2nd in the Led Gelding and 1st in the Working Gelding, going on to win Champion Working with Reserve going to Mandy Blomfield and Honky Tonk Andre.  

NSW Breeders Championships 2006 - White Park Scone

Firstly, congratulations to the committee for organising and running a great show.  Ever versatile Arakoola Andy & Erin Hodges were 2nd Overall in the Open Challange, 1st in the Working Horse Ridden by a Lady (Thanks to David, Sue & Paige Wilson - Glen Lee ASH Stud for their kind sponsorship of this event), 1st Show Hunter Class where competitors are required to jump up to 60cm, 2nd in the Open Working Gelding and Equal 1st in the Silver Champagne Stakes Working Section with Sue Wilson and Glen Lee Cryptic.

Eastern Branch Breeders Championships 2006

Arakoola Andy and Erin Hodges topped off a successful weekend with a win in the Open Versatility Challange, winning the Hack Section.  They also won Dressage 1.4 and 2.2 and the Pas de Deux with Cody Peterson on Arakoola Nikki, 2nd in the Hack Gelding, Senior ASHLA and Feature Station Horse behind Loretta Lawson on Rosebrook Ferrari and 5th in the Open Working Gelding.

Arakoola Penny - Sold to Victoria

Congratulation to Mrs Penny Pengilly on her purchase of our lovely chestnut mare Arakoola Penny (McArthurs Revolt/Arakoola Thawing), October 2006.  Penny is looking forward to using Penny for dressage and leisure ridding.  Penny has settled into her new home well and we hope Penny and her family gain many years of enjoyment from their association with our wonderful ASH breed.

National ASHLA Pointscore: CAMPDRAFT TROPHY - Arakoola Andy

2006 ASH National Championships 2006 - Warwick QLD

Arakoola Medallion (McArthurs Revolt/Tokens Trinkette) won Champion Hack as well as the Nat Buchanan Trophy for highest score in the Novice Dressage test (Medallion won both tests!).  Medallion was ridden by 15yo Cody Peterson.  Broken as a 3yo by Erin Hodges and purchased by the Petersons as a 4yo after limited showing as a 3yo.  Medallion was schooled by Kim & Cody to become a wonderful dressage and show horse, as well as a great allrounder, competing at Pony Club, ASH shows, Ag Shows and Open Dressage competitions.  Chestnut with a blaze and the spitting image of his wonderful mother, his great breeding is highlighted by his awesome achievements.  Medallion carries a double cross of Gibbergunya and is a grandson of two renowned horses in the great Rivoli Ray on his sires side and the lovely chestnut stallion Plashett Token on his mothers side.  Medallion has since been sold to a Sydney based family and along with his brother Arakoola Talisman is now enjoying forming a new partnership with 14yo Nickola.

Arakoola Andy, stayed show horse that he is gave his usual outstanding allround performance.  Andy true to his nature won the Pleasure Hack Gelding and placed in his other hack classes including English Attire.  His most outstanding achievement for the week however, was placing THIRD overall in the Open Challange with Erin, including a 2nd in the Hack Section.  The two top placings went to Michael Wilson (Nandye Reflect) and Michael Hiscock (Knights Top That) both full-time horseman and of great renown.  

2006 Sydney Royal Show Success

Erin Hodges, 21, riding Arakoola Andy demonstrated the versatility of this great breed.  This pair won the coveted Australian Stock Horse Ladies Association (ASHLA) class from a very competitive field, taking out the RAS ASHLA Ian Armstrong Perpetual Trophy as well as the Novice Rider Sash.  ASHLA classes are judged on a challenging range of aspects - a workout, the horse’s ability, manners and paces and suitability as a lady’s horse, the rider’s dress, equipment, general presentation and riding ability.  Erin and Andy also won the ASH small arena campdraft and were placed second in the Stockman’s Turnout (in which the riders and horses are equipped for a day’s work around a property, with points awarded for type, conformation, soundness, manners and paces of the horse, saddlery, gear, costume, general appearance and the riders ability).
They won places in four other classes and ended a successful show campaign with a fifth overall placing in the pointscore competition for the most versatile Stock Horse Exhibit.

Younger brother Warwick, 14, riding Melander Star Whitney showed his potential for success with a first place in the small arena draft for youth riders and placings in four other clases.  His successful campaign also resulted in an overall fifth in the pointscore for Stock Horse Ridden by a Youth under 18 years.
