We have also collected a number of good broodmares which the children have ridden like LOTSA LOOT (SCRUMLO VICTORY), BAREGA PROMISE and MELANDER STAR WHITNEY (STAR BLACK MINSTRIL). These mares have the performance and the temperament to enter our stud and we have and will breed these mares now to our young stallion ARAKOOLA JAZZMAN by NABINABAH EASY GUN from ARAKOOLA MELODY (by STAR BLACK MINSTREL from TOKENS TRINKETTE). The other half of the stud are mares by NABINABAH EASY GUN and NABINABAH GUNNER which should also take us forward.
Brian Hodges: The Arakoola Stockhorse Stud was created with the classification of a mare and foal in 1975 at Gresford, before which I had been riding and breeding horses since 1966. In those early years my thinking was influenced by my grandfather Arthur Sinclair and Maurice Wright who was active as an early director of the society.
In 1980 in search of a trail riding horse I purchased TOKENS TRINKETTE. This mare would form the basis of our stud and commit the whole family to the love of horses. Over the next 20 years she did much of the work on the place but most importantly produced two mares and three geldings not least among them is ARAKOOLA ANDY.
Being in the lower Hunter our horses are based on the bloodlines that the hunter is famous for. TOKENS TRINKETTE was by PLASHETT TOKEN and he was line bred to Gibbergunya. The early articles of the Eastern Branch “Stockwhip” magazine attest to the qualities and temperament of these horses.
We were to combine and recombine these genes with NABINABAH EASY GUN. In this horse and his progeny you can see the work which good breeders have done in selecting for athleticism and temperament. We are so used to the temperament of these horses now that we almost take it for granted. Whether it is taking a 5 year old mare who’s drafting and doing working classes for a 10 year old child or drafting on Saturday and dressage on Sunday, or finish a campdraft run and then go out for champion Hack, they will calmly and happily oblige.
