The Arakoola Stud is on a 700 acre property located in the lower Hunter Valley 15 minutes from Maitland and 35 minutes from Newcastle. There the Hodges family breed Australian Stock Horses and Simmental Stud Cattle as well as a commercial beef enterprise and Lucerne hay production on the Paterson River.
Brian and Janet with their 4 children, Erin, Rowan, Ian and Warwick who campaign their horses have lived on the property for 25 years. The horses are used exclusivly on the property as the sole way of moving & handling stock. Drainage canals run through the lower country and in winter there is often a lot of water laying around. Horses are invaluable in this situation for cattle and horse work.

The children have all been extensively involved in Pony Club with the Arakoola horses excelling in this type of work. They have competed successfully to State level in Campdraft, Sporting, Dressage and Show Riding. The horses we have sold on are continuing to excel for their new riders in many and varied disciplines.

As our horse numbers have grown and our family has matured we have found ourselves with an opportunity to begin to share these horses. The Peterson family, Kim, Kevin, Cody, Emily and Kye have come to join us in training, showing and preparing our horses.
